The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy the Environment and Water has published a new PDRS Rule, effective 1 April 2026.

The Rule change removes the activity BESS2 (Onboard a battery with a VPP) equipment requirement that from 1 April 2026 batteries must have a minimum warranted cumulative energy throughput equivalent to 3.65 MWh/kWh of usable battery capacity.

The requirement for batteries to have a minimum warranted cumulative energy throughput equivalent to 2.8 MWh/kWh of usable battery capacity still applies.

We have updated our BESS2 audit scope and PDRS Rule webpage.

ACPs must use the new version of the Rule for all implementations on or after 1 April 2026 when registering PRCs.

For more details about the change see the information on the NSW Climate and Energy Action website.
