The Building Commission NSW website has published new guidance on hot water heat pump installations

They have created advisory notes for plumbing and electrical work. The advisory notes outline common non-compliances and provide guidance for carrying out safe and compliant installations.

Electrical licence is required for Air Conditioner replacements

Building Commission NSW also advises that installing an air conditioner requires an electrical licence. Air conditioning licences allow only for repairs and replacement of parts, not replacement of the system.

For replacements, the electrical components must meet the current requirements of AS/NZS 3000 requiring a Type A RCD, a local isolator and ensuring the installation wiring meets the requirement of the system being installed.

This means a licensed electrician is required for air conditioner replacements, not just new installations. A CCEW must be provided to the customer and Building Commission NSW.
