Marketing your products
This page helps you choose the correct wording when marketing accepted products.
Understanding our role
It is important that when you market products you do not make false claims. IPART regulates the Safeguard schemes and accepts certain products for use in those schemes. This does not mean we ‘approve’ products for use in NSW. You must not use the word ‘approved’ in your marketing.
Our role is limited to publishing products we have accepted. This means they meet equipment requirements under Clause 9.2A.2 of the ESS Rule.
We publish values for each accepted product. These are used in energy savings and peak demand reduction capacity calculations.
We do not give approvals. We gather information on approvals from other regulators like NSW Fair Trading.
Using the correct wording
Our preferred wording for your marketing material is ‘Accepted for use in NSW ESS’. You can also use ‘Accepted for use in NSW ESS/PDRS’ if applicable.
Use this wording for:
- product labels
- documents
- websites
- any other promotional or informative material.
You can also use shortform versions such as ‘ESS/PDRS accepted NSW’.
Avoiding inappropriate wording
You cannot use the following phrases on products or in marketing materials:
- ‘IPART approved’
- ‘ESS approved’
- ‘PDRS approved’
- ‘Safeguard approved’.
Changing the wording
Our recommended wording may not be appropriate in every situation. If you wish to change the wording from the guidance above, you need to get approval for new wording. Email us the proposed wording.
You are responsible for removing all other wording. This applies to your own marketing material and that of the manufacturer. If you currently have wording that does not follow the above guidance, you must correct this as soon as possible.
