ACPs calculate how many certificates they can create from eligible activities using specific calculation methods. Next, they register the certificates in the Registry of Certificates. This is done in TESSA, our online system
Once registered, a certificate can be traded.
A certificate owner is responsible for arranging the trade or sale of any certificates. This is done outside of the Registry of Certificates.
Whenever a sale or trade occurs, the new owner must register the transfer of ownership in the Registry of Certificates. They do this within TESSA.
A certificate holder can give the certificate back to the issuing authority, ending its validity or use. This is known as surrendering a certificate.
Scheme participants need to surrender certificates as part of meeting their obligations. Other certificate holders can choose to surrender their certificates voluntarily.
This is done in TESSA. IPART then decides whether to accept the surrender of a certificate.
