Surrendering certificates

This page explains why and when you might surrender a certificate.

Scheme participants surrender certificates to meet their obligations under the Safeguard schemes

ACPs may need to forfeit certificates if they register them in error or create them improperly.

Organisations or members of the public may voluntarily surrender certificates.

How to surrender

You need a TESSA user account to surrender certificates. The Registering an account page explains how to set up an account.

Scheme participants create an ‘ESS Annual Statement’ or ‘PDRS Annual Statement’ case to start the surrender process.

Anyone wanting to voluntarily surrender certificates creates a ‘Voluntary Surrender Certificates’ case. Watch our TESSA video Voluntary Surrender of Certificates for instructions.

ACPs that need to forfeit certificates create a ‘Forfeit Certificates’ case.

IPART is the Scheme Regulator. We'll decide whether to accept the certificate surrender.

When to surrender

Scheme participants must surrender certificates when they submit their annual statements. The Scheme participant compliance timeline lists the due dates for these.

Voluntary certificate surrenders can be done at any time.
