Applying for product acceptance
To have lighting, water heater and chimney damper products added to our list of accepted products you must apply for product acceptance.
Submit a quality application
Products must meet relevant energy efficiency, performance and safety standards required by our legislation. These requirements are specified in the activity definitions of the rule and are supported by the evidence you submit. Make sure you have all the necessary documents and information ready before you begin your application.
Required information
To make a strong application, you should provide:
- accurate product information (brand, model, number, category)
- supporting documents to meet requirements
- consistent information in all parts of your application.
This information helps us decide if we can accept your product to create energy savings. If you do not provide all the required information we will reject your application.

We rely on reports from accredited bodies. Test reports submitted to us need to be from an accredited laboratory or equivalent.
The application process
Start by checking the list to see if the product was already accepted.
If you do not find the product on our list:

Read the Application Guide for your product type and prepare your application documents.
It is essential that you prepare these before you begin your application.

Lodge an application.
You will need to lodge the application in TESSA, our online system.

We will review the application to check it meets requirements and you have provided all documentation.

We may request additional information.

If we accept the product, we will publish it on the IPART public list.

ACPs can create certificates from the product on or after the date it is published on our list.
You cannot apply for duplicate models in TESSA. The system will automatically reject your application.
We do not process products that are already accepted. However, if your product requires acceptance across different calculation methods, please contact our team to discuss the next steps.
Please note that there are different requirements and values to submit for HEER and IHEAB calculation methods. These cannot be submitted jointly.
